UK Government Body Kept Files on People Criticizing Prevent Program

The Prevent Standards and Compliance Unit, linked to the UK Home Office, secretly logged 77 "observations" of people criticizing the Prevent counter-extremism program online between March 2024 and February 2025. Most came from X, with some from Reddit, and mainstream media articles were also included. The documents were obtained by Rights & Security International after a successful appeal to the Information Commissioner's Office. It remains unclear how the data is used or shared.
You should be able to criticize government policy without getting put on a list.
