A Wild Pointer Bug in Infidel Corrupted Memory for 40 Years

Infidel Goes Wild

While adding a debug view, the author discovered a compiler bug in Infocom's Infidel: a routine meant to store dropped items in the desert instead writes to memory address 30, corrupting the abbreviations table. The bug shipped unnoticed in 1983 and 1984 releases, only surfacing when nine or more objects are dropped in the endless desert.

As a C programmer, I am legally required to regard memory corruption as the worst of all possible sins.
