Ukraine's Distributed Renewables Survive Russian Strikes
In Ukraine, distributed renewables foil Russia's assaults

Russia's attacks on Ukraine's centralized power grid have left millions without water and heat, but distributed solar and storage keep essential services running. In Mykolaiv, a small off-grid solar field powers a water pump, while five solar desalination systems supply 250,000 residents with 1.2 million litres of drinking water daily. Ukraine is racing to decentralize its energy system, with rooftop solar, batteries, and microgrids proving far harder for Russia to knock out than large power plants.
A coal power station [is] a large single target that a single missile could take out. You would need around 40 missiles to do the equivalent amount of capacity damage at a wind farm.
