OKI packs 124 layers into a 7.6mm PCB for AI chip testing

OKI Develops 124-Layer PCB Technology

OKI Circuit Technology has developed a 124-layer PCB that stays just 7.6mm thick, breaking the previous 108-layer ceiling caused by thickness limits. The breakthrough comes from ultra-thin materials, specialized handling tools, and a proprietary automatic transport system. These boards are built for testing next-generation AI semiconductors, especially HBM with stacked DRAM, and will be shown at PCB East 2025 in Massachusetts.

Nevertheless, PCB thickness has been limited to 7.6 mm due to various constraints, and 108 layers was the maximum limit with conventional technology.

So... at what point does someone re-create a 386 or 6501 but using only a motherboard, with no discrete circuits?

Can someone explain the implications of this?

OKI ? As in, my cellular scanner ?
