Alibaba's AI model outperforms most radiologists in detecting cancer
Alibaba open-sources AI model that can detect cancer and nearly 150 conditions
Alibaba's Damo Academy has open-sourced Damo Radar, a vision-language AI that reads contrast-enhanced CT scans of 18 abdominal organs to identify nearly 150 conditions, including cancers. In nearly 40,000 real-world exams, it achieved an average AUC of 0.913 across 146 clinical findings. In a study with 26 radiologists, the model's average accuracy beat 23 of them, and helped doctors cut missed diagnoses by 10% and reading time by over 30%. The research appears in Science.
The research team said the training method could eventually be extended to other types of medical imaging, calling the model “the world’s first expert-level generalist medical imaging model”.

I much prefer Gemini. It tells me I'm very smart and almost always right.
