A new paper proposes regenerating used batteries by dissolving the electrode–electrolyte interphase, but Hacker News commenters are unconvinced. One argues the technique needs risky chemical injection into dangerous cell chemistries, and calls for banning liquid-electrolyte NMC, LFP, and LiPo cells in favor of solid-state designs with ceramic separators, such as those from ProLogium. Another notes that periodic 'batteries that last forever' studies rarely reach implementation.

NMC are extremely dangerous under deflagration, and LFP create huge amounts of colorless and odorless hydrogen gas that has already blown up many improperly engineered buildings that used them and assumed they were "safe".
