Column built its own issuer processor to eliminate middleware in card issuing

Column has built an issuer processor from scratch with direct connections to Visa and Mastercard, consolidating the bank, processor, and capital into one system. This allows launching credit, debit, prepaid, and stablecoin-backed card programs in three API calls, with weeks to market instead of months. The platform offers real-time authorization webhooks, mobile wallet control, and physical card printing via a single API call.

Launching a card program used to mean stitching together at least three partners — an issuing bank, a source of capital, and an issuer processor — and owning the risk and gaps in between. With Column, you have a single partner, and those gaps disappear.

I am one of the engineers who built this.

Column is an OCC-chartered bank with its own in-house built banking core, so the processor runs on the same core as our ledger and payment rails.

We have direct integrations with Visa and Mastercard. It supports credit, debit, charge, fleet, prepaid, and stablecoin-backed programs, and what you'd expect from a mature issuer processor out of the gate: 3DS, digital wallets, Level 3 data, disputes, spend controls, and card manufacturer integrations.

    Happy to answer questions!
