EU repairability rules: 80% of new smartphones still flout them

Smartphone makers don't bother to comply with EU repairability requirements

One year after the EU's repairability rules took effect, over 80% of new smartphones and tablets still lack required repair information, according to Right to Repair Europe. A review of the EU's product registry found that of 2,334 smartphone models, only 18% list a website with spare parts prices or repair instructions. Many records are blank or link to irrelevant pages, and some manufacturers even award themselves top repairability scores despite non-compliance. The group criticizes the lack of enforcement and self-assessed scores, calling for mandatory publication of supporting documentation.
