UC Berkeley indefinitely suspends international student work authorizations
UC Berkeley's Berkeley International Office has indefinitely paused applications for Course Credit Curricular Practical Training (CPT), a work authorization that lets F-1 visa holders gain practical experience for academic credit. The move follows a second ICE memo warning universities to monitor CPT compliance or risk losing certification to enroll international students. BIO says it will continue processing degree-requirement CPT and hopes to resume Course Credit CPT after consulting legal counsel.
We regret taking this action but we believe that it is in the best interest of students who hold F-1 status and that of the university.
