Australia Bans Generative A.I. From Official Music Charts

Australia's music industry body, ARIA, has announced that songs wholly or largely created by generative AI will be banned from the country's official music charts starting Friday. The new rules allow AI in a supporting role, but require recordings to be 'substantially human-made' to qualify. The move responds to industry-wide concerns about AI's impact on copyright and the integrity of chart rankings. ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd emphasized that charts should reflect genuine human artistry, not AI-generated output that could undermine the music industry's foundations.
But music generated wholesale by services built on artists' recordings is a different matter.
