Fixing a Bricked Framework Laptop

I revived a bricked Framework laptop with $20 of tools

After a botched BIOS update bricked his Framework 13” AMD 7040, the author found that Framework support offered no help out of warranty and that the only fix was to flash the BIOS chip externally. He documents the entire process—from identifying the chip to using a cheap programmer—so others can recover their own laptops without buying a new motherboard.

It soon became apparent to me that if BIOS flashing on Framework fails and it doesn’t automatically recover by itself, there was no recovery mechanism short of externally programming the BIOS chip.
