The Indexed Web Has at Least 3.98 Billion Pages—But Google Just Cut Off the Counter
The Size of the World Wide Web

WorldWideWebSize.com, which has tracked the size of the indexed web since 2006, reports that as of January 15, 2025, the indexed web contains at least 3.98 billion pages. However, the site can no longer retrieve data from Google, which has made automated queries difficult, so it cannot update its estimates. The site's method combines word frequencies from a large offline corpus with search engine result counts to estimate index sizes, and it subtracts an estimated overlap between engines to avoid double-counting. The author, Maurice de Kunder, provides historical data and links to his academic papers describing the methodology.
Houston we have a problem: Since January 15, 2025 we cannot receive any data from Google.
