Fnac Darty fined €7M for tracking users without consent

noyb win: French electronics retailer Fnac Darty fined €7M

Following noyb's 2023 complaints, France's CNIL investigated Fnac Darty and confirmed the retailer's app placed a tracker without consent, gathering browsing history to power product recommendations and train its algorithm. The authority fined the company €7 million for failing to obtain consent, with a €10,000 daily penalty if it does not comply. noyb's lawyer says the decision should set the tone for illegal tracking cases.

The CNIL made once again very clear that processing people's data for personalised advertising requires consent.
