Scribd quietly notifies users of a security breach

A Hacker News user reports receiving a breach notice from Scribd, Inc., parent of Scribd, Slideshare, Everand, and Fable, sent through notification partner Epiq. An unauthorized third party may have accessed email addresses plus partial payment data: the last four credit card digits, country, issuer, expiry date, and payment history. Scribd says it has secured the system, notified law enforcement and data protection authorities, and hired a third-party cybersecurity firm.
