ICE Hired a Contractor to Takedown a Leak Site, and the Registrar Caved
ICE wants its mask back, and hired a company to ask
FlokiNET refused a takedown request for icepi.cx, a site publishing the work identities of ICE employees, arguing it serves accountability journalism rather than doxxing. The notice came from ZeroFox, a contractor DHS pays $15 million to scrub leaks, not from ICE directly. Hours later, registrar CentralNic placed the domain on serverHold anyway, silencing the site without explanation. It has since resurfaced at a different domain.
A system where an agency can buy removals through a contractor, where the contractor is possibly paid by volume, and where the quickest route runs through infrastructure nobody is watching, like the registrar in this case is not a system for stopping harassment. It is a system for making inconvenient information disappear.

Registrars that unconditional comply with malicious takedown orders should be boycotted outright.
“By mid-morning, icepi.cx no longer resolved. Its registrar, CentralNic, had placed the domain on serverHold.”
Especially relevant for the HN audience.

> In the meantime the site is online again under a domain from a different registrar (http://icepicx.is/)
