This Coding Agent Rewrites Its Own Code Mid-Conversation

Init – a Rust agent harness that recompiles and hot-swaps its own core mid-task

INIT Labs has released an open-source coding agent that rewrites its own harness — prompts, tools, and compiled core — tests each change through four gates, and hot-swaps it in mid-conversation. A protected Root it can never touch holds the keys, the signed record, and the undo button, rolling back any change that misbehaves. Measured on v0.3.x: a 4.3-second core swap while keeping 87.9% of the prompt cache, at $0.0005 per turn.

If a change does harm, the Root rolls it back.
