Hacker Revives Mac OS on Apple's Cancelled Network Server
MacOS Extensions Pack for the Apple Network Server v1.0
A vintage computing enthusiast has released a first-cut extensions pack that makes Mac OS 9.1 run on the Apple Network Server using its preproduction ROM. The software fixes the on-board MACE Ethernet, enables the built-in video, and lets the machine restart properly into Mac OS — while still booting AIX, the Unix system the server was actually built for. The pack builds on replica ROMs now sold to collectors.
The good news is, many of the issues with the preproduction ROM in Mac OS can be fixed or worked around in software.
