SDF Has Kept a Public-Access UNIX Community Alive Since 1987
A Love Letter to the Super Dimension Fortress
SDF began in 1987 as a one-modem Apple IIe bulletin board named after the anime Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Today it's a member-funded NetBSD system offering shell accounts, web and Gopher hosting, IRC, Mastodon, and even live TOPS-20 and ITS environments. A new ARPA member recounts its history, the services on offer, and a hand-built Perl CGI guestbook.
Some people today may come here and see us as outdated and 'retro.' But if you get involved, you'll see it is quite alive with new ideas.

If anyone has the money to spare I'd suggest using $36 to get lifetime ARPA level membership to both SDF.org and SDF-EU.org (so a total of $72). Even if it sits idle. As a way to support the service to continue running. For me the email alone is worth it.
And also the Anime that it got it's name from is on Archive.org

This had far less macross saga than I'd hoped!
