A $150k Looker bill replaced by a bucket of HTML files

Can we replace a $150k Looker with a bucket of HTML files?

A $150k Looker bill replaced by a bucket of HTML files

At a 500-person company, three data platform engineers were spending $150k a year on Looker. Then one built a side project in an afternoon that hosts LLM-generated HTML dashboards in S3 behind SSO, with queries running on the viewer's own Snowflake OAuth token. Eight months later it has as many weekly users as Looker, which is down a third. The security model assumes every dashboard is hostile, sandboxing each in an iframe on its own origin. Total build: 325 commits, ~74,000 lines, $6.4k in tokens.

We can't block the XSS, because the XSS is the product, so our job is to make sure it can't reach anything.
