Canada's C-22 Would Let the Public Safety Minister Order Backdoors Into Your Messaging Apps

Bill C-22, the Lawful Access Act, has cleared the House of Commons and now sits before the Canadian Senate. EFF warns it would force telecoms and messaging apps to assist government surveillance, let the Minister of Public Safety compel companies to build law-enforcement backdoors, and require metadata retention for up to a year. CCLA and Citizen Lab researchers say Part 2 should be withdrawn entirely, and some senators already question its constitutionality.
