Apple Tried Icons in Every Menu, and Even Apple Backed Out

No More Icons in Every Menu by Default

Jim Nielsen celebrates a reversal: macOS Tahoe put an icon on every menu item by default, and Golden Gate removes them. John Gruber noted that Apple's new Human Interface Guidelines now cite Tahoe's menus as an example of what not to do. Nielsen argues the retreat is more persuasive than the old "Apple doesn't do it" defense — choosing not to do something you've done is experience.

Choosing not to do something you've never done is one thing. Choosing not to do something you've done is experience.
