The π table at the heart of RC2 has finally been cracked
How RC2's π table was made

RFC 2268 says RC2's 256-byte PITABLE comes from the digits of π but never explains how. A researcher shows that a Fisher–Yates shuffle, drawing exactly three decimal digits of π per swap and discarding biased draws, reproduces the table in all 256 positions. The RFC's unexplained second table falls out of the same generator started four digits later. The finding has no bearing on RC2's security.
How can you tell whether the permutation is based on some sequence of digits from PI?
