Anthropic Built Its Own Version Control System to Handle 30,000 Daily Merges
Redesigning Source Control at Anthropic

Anthropic's monorepo grew from 2,500 to over 30,000 daily merges, overwhelming git. They built Scion, an in-house version control system, and migrated in five months. Scion assumes always-online agents, uses a server-centric design with changesets and derived data, and scales horizontally without packfiles or refs. The post details the principles and architecture behind this agent-scale source control.
The latent demand for merging code is practically infinite, and every bottleneck we remove immediately leads to a further increase in the amount of code we produce.
