Thunderbird's iOS app is being built natively from scratch in Swift and SwiftUI, rather than ported from existing code. The team says this clean foundation draws on lessons from Desktop and Android to deliver fast, reliable email with automatic setup, battery-friendly background sync, and a modern editor. A first community test version is planned within months, and a feature-flag system will let contributors and power users try experimental features early.
Our focus is on total privacy, so no tracking or data collection. In the future, integration with desktop (QR code account sync, etc) probably.
