A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck 12 kilometers west-southwest of Pitaloza Arriba, Panama, on October 9, 2026, at 17:56 UTC. The quake occurred at a depth of 12.6 kilometers and was reviewed by the USGS National Earthquake Information Center. ShakeMap estimates indicate intensity VIII, and ground failure assessments suggest significant landslide and liquefaction areas, with populations exposed.

I am in the hills just outside of penonome,panama. The initial rumble made the power go out and I could see visible shaking, but not quite enough to damage my house. There are some damaged homes and commercial buildings, but usually the older or poorly co structed ones. We are not used to earthquakes around here. There are still small rumbles happening even right now.

it was felt in Panama city, panama. Weve never had so many earthquakes in a lifetime perhaps a century

I'm in Panama City and felt the shake. Wasn't too bad. Entire building got out. Seems fine now, no apparent damages as of yet
