Kyushu University builds a VR chair that needs no headset
How to head into VR without wearing a headset

Researchers at Kyushu University have developed a VR system you don't wear. Instead of goggles, a micromirror array mounted on a chair uses aerial imaging optics to send slightly different images to each eye, creating a stereoscopic scene that floats in space. A built-in gyroscope tracks the chair's rotation so the view shifts as you turn, delivering a theater-like experience from a compact seat.
Actually, the project started when one of our students complained about how difficult it was to spend long periods in VR. Some days he's in VR more than he's out of it. He'd even try to sleep there, but the headset made it hard to get comfortable.
