Anthropic Subscriptions Offer 5x+ More Value Than OpenAI
Subscription plans are the main way consumers and small businesses pay for AI, and they're heavily subsidized. Despite being just 10% of Anthropic's revenue, subscriptions can consume over 40% of inference compute and lower blended revenue per MW by ~$36M. SemiAnalysis built a dashboard to track subscription limits across providers, revealing that Anthropic's mid-tier plans offer roughly 5x the API-equivalent value of OpenAI's, even after OpenAI halved the value of its $200 plan and introduced a $500 tier.
At this mid-tier of models—which both companies market as the intended daily driver for most users—Anthropic is an overwhelmingly better deal, offering ~5x the API-equivalent value across the board.
