Tech Worker Embarrassed by Industry's Failure to Make Digital Life Usable

Ben Thompson said on a recent episode of Dithering that he felt embarrassed as a tech worker while helping his mom manage her digital life, because everything was too hard and convoluted. That same evening, Jim Nielsen received a text from a family member ranting about the modern web: "Dude. I hate the modern web. I hate. Website. S. Using websites. Trying to do things quickly and efficiently. What a buggy mess." Nielsen hears this often from non-tech family and friends, and as their connection to tech, he too is embarrassed by the industry's collective failure.

And I, too, am embarrassed on behalf of the tech industry — by our collective failure.
