TidesDB brings write-optimized storage to MySQL as a plugin, cutting disk writes by up to 47x

A new write and space optimized storage engine for MySQL is here

TidesDB is now available as an external plugin storage engine for MySQL, not a fork. It offers write and space optimization, with features like compression, value separation, and optimistic MVCC. Benchmarks show up to 6x faster deletes and 47x fewer bytes written per operation compared to InnoDB. The engine supports full-text, spatial, and vector columns, and can be installed via a script.

An InnoDB update of a random row has to find a 16 KB page that is usually not resident, read it, change it and write all 16 KB back through the doublewrite buffer with redo on top. TidesDB appends a few hundred bytes and sorts it out later.

Finally a replacement for RocksDB / MyRocks.

I want to move from MySQL to Postgres, but without a space optimized storage as the MySQL has in Percona, it is impossible to me.

Curious to know if MySQL has any distinct advantages over Postgres at this point.

How does this differ from RocksDB / MyRocks?
