Kagi Ends Orion Browser Development for Linux, Will Open-Source It

Kagi Abandons Orion Browser for Linux and Windows, Will Open-Source Both

Kagi has stopped developing Orion Browser for Linux and Windows, citing limited resources and a small team funded entirely by users. The current Linux beta will keep working but receive no updates after October 2, 2026. Instead of dropping the project, Kagi will open-source both versions and has approached foundations about taking over. The company won't be the main maintainer, so Orion's future depends on community support.

Kagi says that keeping a browser running on multiple platforms usually requires either a lot of funding or a big open-source community. Since Kagi has neither, it will now focus its limited resources on Orion for macOS and iOS.
