Marine biologist David Gruber founded Project CETI to decode sperm whale communication with AI and machine learning. The project has found vowel-like features in their clicks, regional dialects, and a babbling phase in calves. Gruber is cautious about transmitting to whales until we understand what we're saying, and is developing ethics guidelines for interspecies communication.
