Figma Blocks Pi from Its MCP Server, Sparking Debate Over Open AI Tooling
Figma restricts MCP access to whitelisted clients, excluding Pi
Figma's remote MCP server only accepts clients on its supported list, and Pi isn't on it. When David Soria Parra, who created MCP, asked Figma to fix the restriction, Figma's Gayani replied that Pi could be considered if a form is filled out. Parra called the restriction sad, saying he envisioned MCP as an open ecosystem. Others compared it to letting only Firefox access a website.
I think in spirit, when I created MCP, I envisioned an open ecosystem. That to me feels core. Seeing restrictions like this is sad and I hope Figma can get to a point where it's more open or at least make the process of getting into the allowlist very easy.
