Google breaks its 10-year update promise for Chromebooks

Google breaks promise to provide 10 years of updates to Chromebooks

Google has announced that ChromeOS updates will end in mid-2034, cutting short the promised 10-year support for Chromebooks purchased between mid-2024 and now. The company says many newer models can migrate to the upcoming Android-based Googlebook OS, but the vague promise leaves buyers uncertain about their devices' longevity.

Sadly, we live in a world where corporations are free to make and break whatever promises they want virtually free of consequences, and as society we’re so used to it that anti-consumer behaviour like this barely elicits a shrug.
