SDF Public Access Unix System Has Been Running Since 1987

SDF Public Access Unix System ... est. 1987

▲ 76kmstout15 HN discussion

A Hacker News thread about SDF, a public access Unix system founded in 1987 that still offers shell accounts to members. Commenters praise its Mastodon and Pixelfed instances, recommend SSHing in for the com chat and bboard discussions, and note a long history of prior HN discussions going back to 2017. One user admits having an SDF login but not knowing what others use it for.

These are really cool services but to have a proper blast from the past you need to ssh in and join the chat on com or the discussions on bboard

Love SDF. They run some great services for members, like a mastodon instance and pixelfed.

I have an SDF login still and I go in there every once in awhile but don't really know what others use it for
