Galaxy Game – Interim Computer Museum
Galaxy Game, the first coin-operated video game, installed at Stanford's Tresidder Union in 1971, has arrived at the Interim Computer Museum for restoration. Built by Bill Pitts and Hugh Tuck, it ran on a PDP-11/20 with an HP 1300A electrostatic display. The PDP-11's power supply has been rebuilt and the machine is running; next, the 20 kV displays need refurbishment to restore their sharp, bright vectors.
No amount of dimes and quarters was ever going to pay for that hardware, however long the lines got, and they got up to an hour long.
