Jamie Brandon rewrote his text editor, Focus, from scratch with heavy AI assistance, mostly using Opus 5 in Claude Code on a $20 subscription. He now commits AI-generated code after minimal review, relying on end-to-end tests, a fuzzer, and API snapshots to catch regressions. The result is less janky and more featureful than the original, including VCS integration he never got around to before. He still works single-threaded, designing thoroughly before letting the model run.
I'm wary of vibecoding myself into a mess. Often the mess happens a little at a time, and each tiny increment isn't totally obvious when looking at a big commit.
