New Jersey fined DataOne $1.1 million for secretly operating 62 gas generators without permits at its Vineland data center, following a Guardian and Floodlight investigation that used thermal drone footage to show 45 generators running. The DEP called it the largest enforcement action ever against a data center in the state, but residents and activists say the fine is pocket change for a billion-dollar company and demand a moratorium.
