Porsche puts wireless EV charging into production
Porsche has quietly launched wireless inductive charging for its Cayenne Electric SUV, buried in a press release about new colors. The system uses a pad under the car and a ground pad, delivering up to 11 kW at about 90% efficiency for overnight charging. Safety features include motion sensors and foreign object detection that stop charging if a living creature or metal object is near. It's available now in Germany and other European markets, rolling out globally in stages.
Integrated safety mechanisms like motion sensors and foreign object detection are baked in to ensure safe operation, designed to stop the charging process automatically if a living creature comes close to the vehicle or the ground pad or if a metallic object lies on the latter and heats up.

That’s a some 9kW lost on a 80kW battery. I get the convenience, but I think the best use for those would be when standardized and installed in public parking spots, for a brief charge bump, not to charge fully at home, e.g overnight, which is what Porsche aims for.

Charging at home is already more convenient and quicker (in human time) than driving to a gas station, and now they're optimizing the 30 seconds it takes to plug the car in.

I want to know what mechanisms the car provides to ensure you're lined up to the mat correctly. Seems like a small target to hit.
