There Are Over 1M NYC Street Signs. Here is How They Are Made.

The Maspeth Central Shop in Queens, part of the New York City Department of Transportation, still cuts, prints, and assembles more than 70,000 municipal signs a year. Its 46 workers — including seven hand letterers and a blacksmith — maintain over one million street signs across the five boroughs, replacing damaged stop signs, updating renamed streets, and even rushing out 30 "Champions Way" signs for the Knicks parade.
