Spain DXer Catches FM Stations from the Carolinas, 4,000 Miles Away
When the FM Band Goes Transatlantic
Retired Spanish radio veteran Mauricio Molano used an SDRplay RSPduo and Yagi antennas to log four U.S. FM stations via double-hop sporadic-E on July 19. The farthest, WRJA in Sumter, South Carolina, was 4,004 miles away. A Cumulus engineer confirmed the 93.3 MHz catch matched WWWZ's air signal.
This year, sporadic-E made a dream of mine come true, something that seemed impossible until the arrival of software-defined radios.
