Show HN posts now make up over 12% of all Hacker News links

Monthly Show HN submissions exploded from 0.9k to 5.8k between ChatGPT's launch and February 2026, a 6.3x jump. Yet posts reaching 20+ points only grew 1.6x, from 128 to 211. By July 2026, Show HN made up 13.5% of surviving URL stories, with 4,071 submissions from 3,420 distinct submitters.

Show HN volume increased 6x since ChatGPT, while the number of successful submissions remained relatively flat.

    Is it just my impression, or programming language posts took a hit. I think I don't see them as often as before.

    I don't even feel the effect as much because my brain filters these posts out nowadays, like ads. I have essentially zero interest in clicking on Show HN posts anymore.
