Largest known Roman mosaic, beneath Baths of Trajan, opens to the public

A first-century mosaic, the largest ever discovered in the Roman world, has opened to the public in an underground gallery beneath the Baths of Trajan in Rome. The ten-metre-high mosaic, stretching 16 metres along a wall, depicts figures and architecture over four levels. An accompanying fresco shows a walled port city from above. Weekend visits for groups of 15 begin, with expanded hours from 2 October. An on-site museum opened this month.
