A wandering black hole caught feeding on the run
Astronomers have spotted a black hole that is not sitting quietly at the center of a galaxy but drifting through space while still pulling in material. The discovery, discussed on Hacker News and detailed in a paper on arXiv, adds to the small but growing list of these roving, actively feeding black holes, offering a rare look at how they behave when they are on the move.

While the conclusions of the observation are interesting, what really stood out to me was the observations themselves. That black hole is 20 million light years away, in another galaxy! And we have multiple high enough resolution observations to conclude how the gas orbits the black hole and gets dragged along behind it. That's nuts.
