After presenting a homemade vacuum tube at Hackaday Superconference 2022, Nick Poole was invited to write for Make: Magazine. He built a new diode specifically for the article, documenting the pinch seal, assembly, evacuation, and getter firing. The tube worked, and he tested it to destruction, capturing a beautiful tungsten mirror.

TIL the shiny metal coating on top of vacuum tubes is not an X-ray shield, but a reactive coating to scavenge any remaining molecules out of the vacuum.
