US police fear Meta smart glasses could be used to secretly record them
Law enforcement agencies across the US are increasingly concerned that Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses could be used to covertly record officers and facilities, or aid in crimes and terrorism. Previously unreported memos from the NYPD and other agencies, reviewed by the Guardian, cite examples of detainees filming inside detention centers and the New Orleans attacker using smart glasses for reconnaissance. Some federal agencies, like ICE, have banned the glasses in the workplace, while privacy experts argue the concern reflects a double standard: police surveil the public but resist being watched themselves.
These agencies surveil the public incessantly, but the moment we can watch them back, it's deemed a security threat.

This kind of thing just reeks as a meta marketing ploy. My eyes were opened when I started attending some marketing all-hands at my last FANG employer. They do this kind of thing all of the time.

Clearly, all Big Tech needs to do is to create some version of "Flock-powered" smart glasses and, all of a sudden, U.S. police will become Meta's biggest cheerleaders here.
