Four Weeks of a Vegan Diet Alter Signs of Inflammation and Aging

A study by the University Center for Naturopathy at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg and the University of California, San Diego, involving 48 healthy adults, found that just four weeks of a vegan diet can trigger measurable epigenetic changes. Analyzing over 800,000 DNA sites, researchers observed reduced activity in the mTOR signaling pathway and increased activation of pathways linked to insulin action, cell repair, and healthy aging. The vegan group also showed fewer neutrophils and more CD4+ T cells, suggesting a less pro-inflammatory immune response. The findings were published in MedComm.

Our findings show that a dietary change can trigger measurable changes at the epigenetic level within just a few weeks.
