Asahi Linux Now Officially Supports Apple M3 Macs – With Caveats
Asahi Linux developers have announced official support for Apple M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max Macs, bringing them to a state similar to M1 and M2 hardware. However, significant caveats remain: GPU acceleration is not yet performant or power-efficient, and sleep support is missing due to lack of DCP support, which also disables the HDMI port on M3 MacBooks. The Mac Studio M3 Ultra is excluded. Upstreaming of M3 support into the mainline Linux kernel is ongoing, with more patches expected in Linux 7.4+.
The biggest exception though is the GPU support, which they acknowledge is not yet performant or power efficient for 3D acceleration.
