America's Two Largest School Districts Impose AI Moratoriums
New York City and Los Angeles, the nation's two largest school districts, have imposed new restrictions on student AI use for the 2026-27 school year. NYC banned student-facing AI in K-8 classes, while LAUSD enacted a one-year moratorium on generative AI for all students. The decisions follow grassroots pressure from parents, teachers, and students, reversing earlier permissive stances. Both districts will develop longer-term policies over the next year.

I’m sure there are really unique and great ways to utilize AI in the educational setting, however, young children should not be the Guinea pigs. Prove that certain things are beneficial, not just think they are, and then implement with oversight. People need to stop overthinking everything and just take one step at a time, evaluate and then take another step.

Speaking of moratoriums, they also banned phone use. I am curious how that is going. No AI seems like it could be reasonable.
