Black Hole Museum: A New Idea for the Los Alamos Community (2025)
A proposal to establish a Black Hole Museum in Los Alamos would preserve and display the eclectic collection of Ed Grothus, a former LANL machinist turned anti-nuclear activist. His store, the Black Hole, sold salvaged lab equipment to promote peaceful reuse. Photographer Janire Najera, who documented Grothus's life and work, curates the collection. The museum, possibly housed in a shipping container or the airport's old incinerator building, would be self-service and interactive, aiming to attract tourists and tell the story of nuclear history and activism.
The museum would be sealed and self-service, meaning that visitors would be able to walk up and access the exhibits without the need for a guide.
