Smartphone LED detects hidden cameras with AI
Researchers at KAIST, with collaborators from NUS and SMU, have developed SweepLED, a smartphone-based hidden camera detector using a cheap LED attachment and AI. The system analyzes reflection patterns from camera lenses, distinguishing them from ordinary glossy surfaces, achieving 94% accuracy in under five seconds. The hardware costs about $7, promising an affordable consumer accessory to combat illegal cameras in hotels and restrooms.
By combining low-cost hardware with AI analysis, we have demonstrated the potential for a detection technology that even non-experts can use easily.
